Kim Ki-sik, nominee for FSS governor
Another progressive non-bureaucratic figure is set to join the liberal administration under President Moon Jae-in as top financial policy regulator Financial Services Commission (FSC) recommended Kim Ki-sik, a former civilian rights activist and Democratic Party lawmaker, as the new governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) on Friday.
The FSC nominated Kim, 52, who had been a founding member of civilian rights organization People`s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, as the financial watchdog’s new chief.
The FSS governor is recommended by the FSC chief and approved by the president. The nominee does not require legislative confirmation.
Kim would replace Choe Heung-sik who stepped down earlier this month over a hiring scandal at a bank he served as the president in 2013.
Kim joined the National Assembly as a proportional representative of the Democratic Party in 2012. Currently, he serves as a director at the Korea Institute for the Future, a policy think tank run by the ruling party.
