Kepco KDN, South Korea’s electric power IT service provider, celebrated the completion of a 54 megawatt solar power plant in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan on Thursday.

The state-run company won the project to build the 81 billion won ($76.1 million) plant in June 2015. Following the completion of its construction, the company will operate and maintain the plant for the next 20 years and supply all electricity to Tokyo Electric Power Co.

“Our optimized monitoring and control system is expected to help boost the power generation efficiency above the initially expected 80 percent level,” said an official from Kepco KDN.

Kepco KDN, a subsidiary of state-owned Korea Electric Power Corp., provides IT solutions in the electric power system, including power generation, transmission and transformation, distribution and sales.

The firm entered the Japanese solar power market in 2013 and was tasked with building photovoltaic power stations in Tagawa and Iwasaki. Kepco KDN supervises the Japanese plants through its self-developed control system, including a remote thermal monitor that allows real-time processing, and oversees the entire process from power generation to sale.

Kepco KDN said it will leverage its expertise in renewable energy to pursue other power projects in Japan.
