South Korea’s chicken franchise group Genesis BBQ announced on Tuesday that it opened a pop-up store in Taiwan to test the taste bud of its street and fried food-loving people.

The store opened inside FamilyMart, the country’s second-largest convenience store chain, in Taipei. Genesis BBQ plans to open its second pop-up store in New Taipei City, the most populous city in Taiwan, inside FamilyMart, in April, with an aim to eventually establish 3,000 outposts in the East Asian country.

Genesis BBQ said that its first store in Taipei has been selling over 3 million won worth every day.

The Taiwanese rarely cook at home and fried food is one of their favorite take-outs. Genesis BBQ is hoping to ride on the popularity of Korean dramas where eating chimaek- a combo of beef and fried chicken - is a regular scene.

Genesis BBQ Chairman Yoon Hong-geun founded the chicken franchise company in 1995 by opening its first store in Jeongok, Gyeonggi Province. Business expanded in one year to manage 100 franchise stores and 1,000 stores in four years, making it’s a household name for chicken meal takeout and delivery.

BBQ opened its first overseas store in China in 2003. The company currently manages 350 directly operated stores in 30 countries including the United States, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and about 4,000 franchise stores.
