Lord System, a mobile passport platform startup in South Korea, has launched a transportation and prepaid card for foreign tourists.

The company announced Wednesday that it partnered with BC Card to launch Trip.PASS Card, which can be used in conjunction with Trip.PASS, a tourism and financial platform for foreign tourists, which is now available for purchase onboard EastarJet flights.

The Trip.PASS Card is a physical plastic card.

Trip.PASS is a platform that generates a mobile passport in the form of a QR code, undergoes a blockchain-based passport verification process for users, and then issues a rechargeable prepaid card on the app to provide users with services such as transportation, payment, and VAT refunds.

Since identity verification is done through electronic passports and facial recognition, foreign tourists without a foreigner registration number or a domestic phone number can also use it.

“While Trip.PASS was developed to enable access to all services on the app without physical passports or cards, there were limitations such as restricted mobile transport card functions on iPhones (iOS) and lack of support for QR payments in some stores, preventing the use of Trip.PASS,” said a company official.

The Trip.PASS Card and QR payments utilize BC Card‘s payment infrastructure.

QR payments through the app are available at nationwide Payback QR payment merchants, and the Trip.PASS Card in sync can be used at 3.43 million BC Card merchants nationwide without any fees.

Users can directly recharge transport cards through the Trip.PASS app, enabling the use of public transportation such as subways, buses, and taxis.

The Trip.PASS Card began sales through EastarJet’s in-flight sales channel on March 15, targeting foreign tourists from Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand.
