Samsung Electronics announced on Thursday that it is applying artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D technology to enhance its SmartThings “Map View” service.

Map View is a service that allows users to view a virtual drawing of their residential space via SmartThings to understand and manage household devices by room.

A new feature has been added to Map View in the recent update allowing devices equipped with LiDAR sensors, such as the robot vacuum cleaner ‘Bespoke Jet Bot AI,’ to measure the structure and size of a house and generate floor plans.

A 3D viewing feature was also introduced, providing a more intuitive understanding of the house structure and space.

Users can now view 3D blueprints and effortlessly manage SmartThings-connected devices, including lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy usage, for each space.

The service‘s accessibility was also expanded beyond Android mobile devices to include Samsung Smart TVs and iOS mobile devices, ensuring a consistent Map View experience across different platforms.

Plans are in place to extend Map View’s application to home appliances such as the ’Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub‘ and ’Bespoke AI Combo,‘ which feature large screen displays, in the first half of 2024.

Following its debut in South Korea and the United States in 2023, the service will be rolled out globally to additional countries within 2024, the company said.
