SK ecoplant, the environmental service provider under South Korea’s SK Group, has added another waste management company to its asset list to scale up its business ahead of an initial public offering slated for next year.

The company’s board recently decided to acquire a 70 percent in JA Green, a local waste management company headquartered in Cheongju, Chungcheong, for 195 billion won ($152.7 million), according to industry sources on Sunday.

JA Green, a mid-sized privately owned company, has run a waste landfill in Oksan Industrial Complex located in Cheongju. SK ecoplant expects vertical integration from the acquisition to cover phases of regional incineration and landfilling along its value chain as JA Green owns three incineration plants in the Chungcheong area alone.

The acquisition is the latest in SK ecoplant’s M&A spree. In March this year, the company announced that it had acquired TES, a Singapore-based electronic waste recycling company, for 1.24 trillion won.

JA Green is a company with an EBITDA of some 10 billion won, and the latest acquisition means JA Green was valued at a 20 times EBITDA multiple, compared with an average 15 times of valuation of SK ecoplant’s acquisitions last year.
