SKT expands partnership with Deutsche Telekom for metaverse biz in Europe

South Korea’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom has forged a strategic alliance with Germany’s Deutsche Telekom to bring its metaverse service with “Ifland” platform to the European market for its global outreach.

SK square and SK Telecom discussed cooperation on ICT business with Deutsche Telekom at the headquarters of the German company in Bonn, Germany on May 5.

In the presence of SK square Vice Chairman Park Jung-ho, SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang, Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Hottges and board member of management, technology and innovation Claudia Nemat, the three companies agreed to collaborate on global metaverse business, cyber security business, One Store’s entry into the European market and corporate drive for ESG.

“Following the latest meeting, SK Telecom’s existing partnership with Deutsche Telekom has upgraded into a broader alliance with other SK ICT affiliates. Deutsche Telekom will play an important role in bringing Korea’s SK ICT alliance to the European market,” said Park.

SK Telecom and Deutsche Telekom will first carry out a field test of Ifland to check its business feasibility in Germany and other European regions within the year with exploration of metaverse contents and customer targeting marketing activities. In the longer term, they will seek for establishment of a joint-venture for their metaverse business in Europe in cooperation with European telecoms.

For cyber security business, SK shieldus under SK square signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Deutsche Telekom’s security subsidiary Deutsche Telekom Security. Under the strategic partnership, they will work together to advance their security system with digital infrastructure and strengthen the security level for customers.

The two companies discussed collaboration for the security technology and control solution jointly developed by SK Telecom and SK shieldus based on AI image analysis technology Vision AI.
