South Korea’s state-run export credit provider Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank) on Monday agreed to finance $86 million in the research center project of Ethiopia’s Adama Science and Technology University.

Eun Sung-soo, chairman of Korea Eximbank, met with Admasu Nebebe, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation, for the signing of the $86 million loan contract on Monday after the summit talks between Korea and Ethiopia at the Korean presidential office, Korea Eximbank said Tuesday.

Under the project, 1,300 high-tech tools and materials are supplied to five research centers at Adama Science and Technology University and other related centers. Ethiopia launched the project with an aim to groom the local manufacturing sector to bring a rapid growth to the economy, modeling after the past growth of Korea.

Korea Eximbank expects the project it finances would help accelerate the African nation’s industrialization and urbanization and transfer Korea’s advanced science and technology further to other African countries.

“The latest financing helps strengthen ties between Korea and Ethiopia and expand business entries into the African market,” said Eun Sung-soo after the signing.
