LG Electronics Inc.’ mobile payment system LG Pay is now available in the United States.

South Korea’s tech giant said on Tuesday it officially launched LG Pay in the U.S. on July 16 (local time).

Any LG G8 ThinQ smartphone users in the U.S now can use LG Pay to make purchases by downloading the LG Pay app through Google Play. It will be available on other LG phones including V40 and V50 in the coming months, according to the company on Tuesday.

LG Pay currently supports Visa and Mastercard credit cards from six U.S. banks – Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank, Regions Bank, State Employees’ Credit Union (North Carolina), and Virginia Credit Union.

Like Samsung Pay offered by its archrival Samsung Electronics, LG Pay is compatible with both near field communication (NFC) technology and magnetic stripe terminal (WMC). American peers Apple Pay and Google Pay only work with NFC-supporting payment terminals.

LG Pay’s U.S. launch has marked its first inroad into overseas markets since it made its debut in Korea in June 2017. The U.S. mobile payment market is already crowded with its Korean rival Samsung Pay, which entered the U.S. in 2015, as well as dominant players Apple Pay and Google Pay widely used in the country.

A LG Pay user can store up to 10 credit cards and 50 gift/loyalty cards in the app, for easy use by simply swiping the phone at the register. The system can also be activated by voice commands. If the phone is lost or stolen, the cards stored in the app can be removed by visiting MyLGPay.com.
