LG Electronics said on Monday it has launched a new range of artificial intelligence (AI) powered televisions to support Arabic voice recognition in Saudi Arabia to boost its presence in the country and adjacent Middle East markets. The range includes various LG OLED AI ThinQ and LG NanoCell AI ThinQ models.

The conversational voice recognition feature to support Arabic is the world’s first such, making it easier to control TV simply by speaking into the remote control without additional hardware requirements, the South Korean company said.

Voice commands are available for content search and recommendation, volume control, channel change, and image and sound quality adjustment, when the microphone button on the Magic remote control is pressed. For example, when the user speaks in Arabic, "What is the weather today in Riyadh?" or "Let me know the kebab recipe", then the TV show related content on the screen.

The TV brand’s natural language processing function is well received by major IT media overseas. Tom’s Guide of the U.S. and Computer Bild of Germany once wrote “it is the only technology that is worthy of use today and has presented the future of speech recognition technology.”

The company’s voice recognition technology is now available in more than 140 countries with 15 languages, twice more countries than 2018. Recent additions besides Arabic include Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Swedish.
